Yaksu Pork BBQ: A Neighborhood You Come to for One Restaurant
There are more than forty-five meat restaurants around Yaksu Station, but realistically visitors come for exactly one: Geumdwaeji Sikdang. The rest are neighborhood places with no particular reason to be on a traveler's route. Knowing that shape in advance saves you an evening.

Yaksu is a meal, not a destination
It is a quiet residential pocket three subway stops from Myeongdong — change to Line 3 at Chungmuro — with no sights and no shopping — once dinner ends there is nothing to do. Anchor the hours before and after in Myeongdong or Dongdaemun and give Yaksu only the meal itself.
Geumdwaeji Sikdang takes no reservations, only a waitlist
Aged Jeju black pork, listed in the Michelin Guide. It takes no advance reservations at all: on the day, you scan the QR code in front of the store to join the CatchTable waitlist. Since there is no way to lock a seat in from abroad, do not build the day around this place — fit it to how the queue looks when you get there.
Register for the waitlist before opening, with a Korean phone number
It opens at 11:30 with last orders around 22:15 and never closes for the year, so the time window is wide. One visitor report describes typing a Korean phone number into the terminal at the entrance, so a Korean eSIM number is the safer thing to carry. Register just before opening rather than fighting the dinner queue.
Lower your expectations for the alternatives
Look past the top of the local rankings and the rest are neighborhood spots with only a handful of reviews each. The range is real — samgyeopsal, galbi, frozen pork belly, makchang — but few assume a foreign-language customer or a tourist route. If Geumdwaeji Sikdang falls through, moving to another neighborhood beats settling here.
Tips
- Yaksu is a transfer station on Lines 3 and 6. Geumdwaeji Sikdang is a three-to-five minute walk from Exit 2, over on Dasan-ro.
- A CatchTable Global account signs up by email with no Korean phone number, and having one ready makes the on-site QR registration quick. It does not unlock bookings, though — the waitlist is the only route here.

Geumdwaeji Sikdang (Gold Pig)
금돼지식당Michelin Bib Gourmand samgyeopsal (pork BBQ) restaurant, a three-minute walk from Yaksu Station Exit 8. It does not take advance bookings — only the same-day on-site waitlist — so there is no way to lock this in from abroad. Arrival time and how you register for the queue are the whole game.
Mabokrim Tteokbokki (Mabokrim Halmeoni)
마복림떡볶이A jeukseok tteokbokki restaurant in the Sindang-dong tteokbokki alley, traced back to Ma Bok-rim, who started selling there in 1953. Jeukseok tteokbokki is cooked at your own table in a shallow pan, and the smallest portion sold is for two people, so a solo traveller cannot place an order at all. Several shops in the same alley carry "Mabokrim" in their names, and walking into the wrong one is the usual mistake. No source found describes a booking route, so plan around walking in.
Okgyeongine Geonsaengseon
옥경이네 건생선A grilled and braised semi-dried fish restaurant inside Sindang Central Market. The signature dish is grilled semi-dried cuttlefish. An English guide states that dine-in is walk-in only and that only takeout orders can be phoned in a day ahead. It opens at 13:00 and runs until 01:00, so it is shut at lunchtime. Grilled cuttlefish runs from 39,000 won for the small to 98,000 won for the large, so picking the size that matches your group is the main decision here.
