Myeongdong

A multi-floor Daiso at 134-1 Toegye-ro, near Myeongdong Station. It is a fixed-price household-goods chain, so souvenirs, beauty items, snacks and travel supplies are all in one building. The Korea Tourism Organization lists it as a tax refund shop.

A chicken-soup and boiled-chicken restaurant inside Namdaemun Market, at 22-20 Namdaemunsijang-gil. DiningCode lists it 08:00–20:30, closed Sundays. Dak-gomtang (chicken soup) is listed at 10,000 won, a meat set meal at 12,000 won and a whole chicken at 23,000 won. It is a hot-soup breakfast option in the market, Monday to Saturday.

An exchange office on the ground floor of 26 Myeongdong 2-gil. Its official site, which carries the company's business details and counter rates but is built and run by a third party (Trip Onda), gives 09:00–21:30 on weekdays, weekends and public holidays alike. Two Japanese travel guides both describe it as a popular exchange within walking distance of Myeongdong Station Exit 5, and one says there is always a queue. The official site posts its counter rates.

A branch of the gimbap and snack-food chain at 114-3 Toegye-ro, near Myeongdong Station Exit 4. DiningCode lists it as open 24 hours, every day, and a visitor blog says the same. It is the fallback before anything else opens. A May 2026 visitor post gives ramyeon at 4,500 won and omelette rice or spicy pork rice at 8,500 won; DiningCode's menu shows lower, apparently older, prices.

A gomtang (clear beef soup) institution founded in 1939 and listed by the Michelin Guide. Opens at 7am and closes whenever the broth runs out — going early is the whole strategy.

A cafe and bar on the ground floor of 52 Myeongdong 8ga-gil. DiningCode lists it daily 09:00–24:00, last order 23:30. Visitors describe it as a brunch cafe by day and a bar in the evening. A brunch plate is listed at 19,000 won and pudding French toast at 16,000 won. It is an after-9am option, not an early one.

One of the Isaac Toast chain's Myeongdong branches, at 17-1 Myeongdong 10-gil, Jung-gu. DiningCode lists it at 07:00–20:00; in the week checked, only Saturday 3 October (a public holiday) showed an 08:00 opening. A ham and cheese toast is listed at 3,600 won, or 6,600 won as a set. Hours and closing days differ from the chain's Seoul Myeongdong and Namdaemun branches, so check which branch you are heading to.

An Isaac Toast branch at 2-3 Namdaemun-ro, by the Namdaemun Market side. DiningCode lists it 07:00–16:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00–14:00 on Saturday, closed Sundays. It shuts at 4pm (2pm on Saturday), so it is a breakfast or lunch stop. A ham and cheese toast is listed at 3,600 won and the ham special at 4,100 won.

An Isaac Toast branch at 105 Toegye-ro. DiningCode lists it Monday to Saturday 07:00–19:00, closed Sundays. Visitor reviews describe it as takeaway only, with no seating. Visitors place it near Myeongdong Station Exit 5. On a Sunday morning, look at the chain's Cathedral branch instead.

The 19th-floor restaurant of the ibis Ambassador Seoul Myeongdong (78 Namdaemun-ro). Its official page gives the breakfast buffet as daily 06:30–10:00, last entry 09:30. Lunch is a buffet on weekdays (11:30–14:00) and à la carte on weekends and public holidays (11:00–14:00). The page does not give the breakfast price or say whether non-guests can come in.

The department store at 81 Namdaemun-ro (the official page gives the lot address 1 Sogong-dong), northwest of Myeongdong beside Euljiro 1-ga Station. Its official page gives 10:30–20:00 Monday to Thursday and 10:30–20:30 Friday to Sunday and public holidays, with the restaurant floor open 10:30–21:00. Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 7 leads straight into the B1 floor. The Korea Tourism Organization's accessibility listing places accessible restrooms on B1 and the 6th floor, so it is a toilet option in Myeongdong during store hours.

The directly run Myeongdong store of the MONEY PLANET exchange company, at 103 Toegye-ro, Jung-gu (official address). The official store list gives Monday to Saturday 09:00–20:30 and Sunday 09:00–18:30. Two Japanese travel guides put it two to three minutes on foot from Myeongdong Station Exit 5. The same company also runs unmanned exchange kiosks around Myeongdong, which are separate from this staffed store.

The Myeongdong main branch of the MoneyBox exchange chain, at 52-1 Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu. The chain's official branch list gives its hours as 09:00–21:00 every day. The chain has several other branches around Myeongdong, including Myeongdong Branch 2 (15 Myeongdong 9-gil) and a Namdaemun branch, so check which one you are heading to. MoneyBox also runs online booking, where you lock in a rate on the web and collect the cash at a branch.

Korea's first Roman Catholic parish church and the first Gothic building built in the country — begun in 1892, completed in 1898, and designated Historic Site No. 285. Admission is free. The basement crypt holds the remains of nine saints and martyrs.

Seoul's best-known kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) restaurant, serving one focused menu since 1966. There is no reservation and no waiting app — you queue — so a visitor without a Korean phone number hits no barrier here. What you pick instead is the hour you arrive.

Korea's most famous street-food strip — 100–150 stalls running daily from around 3–4pm to 10pm. Tornado potatoes, hotteok, grilled lobster and more, centered on Myeongdong Station Exits 6 and 8.

A bakery-cafe in the Hanyang Building, 23 Myeongdong 9-gil. DiningCode lists it 08:00–22:30 Monday to Friday and 08:00–21:30 on Saturday and Sunday, so it opens at 8am every day. A croissant is listed at 4,500 won and a pain au chocolat at 4,900 won. Visitors describe ordering on the ground floor and eating upstairs on the second.

Myeonghwadang gimbap and tteokbokki are listed at 4,800 won each, pot noodles at 8,500 won and bibimbap at 9,500 won. It is an after-9am option, not an early one.

Seoul's skyline icon. The classic route up is the Namsan cable car from the Myeongdong side, which makes it a natural add-on to a Myeongdong day. Online combo tickets (cable car + observatory) beat on-site prices.

Korea's largest traditional market, over 600 years old and within walking distance of Myeongdong. Food alleys (kalguksu noodles, braised hairtail) sit alongside zones for household goods, kitchenware and eyeglasses. Bring cash — many stalls don't take cards.

Olive Young's tourist-oriented Myeongdong store at 53 Myeongdong-gil. What you buy here is refunded right at the register when you show your passport, and the official site lists foreign-language help for the refund itself. The GTF desk in the 2nd-floor Global Service Lounge is for refund slips issued by other shops — it is not part of buying here.

Korea's oldest department store, in a landmark 1930 building — luxury floors, a famous food hall, and a duty-free shop (floors 8–12) in one place, plus a tax-refund desk for foreign shoppers. Famous for its winter facade light show.

A brunch cafe at 47 Myeongdong 8ga-gil (ground floor). DiningCode lists it daily 07:30–16:00, one of the earlier brunch openings in Myeongdong. It closes at 4pm, so it does not suit a late lunch. The avocado benedict toast is listed at 14,000 won and an Americano at 3,800 won.

A branch of the gimbap and snack-food chain in the basement (B1) of 44 Myeongdong 3-gil. DiningCode lists it as open 24 hours, every day. Beyond gimbap it serves rice bowls and omelette rice — spicy pork rice bowl is listed at 9,000 won and omelette rice at 10,000 won. It is a sit-down fallback in the Myeongdong area before dawn or early in the morning.

A Korean home-style diner in a Myeongdong side street. It opens at 05:30 Monday to Saturday, one of the earliest openings in the area. Map apps list it as Yeji Sikdang and travel guides also call it Yeji Bunsik. It is about a five-minute walk from Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 5.
