Breakfast in Myeongdong: What's Actually Open Early
Myeongdong starts its day late — department stores and street-level cosmetics shops mostly open between 10am and 11am. Restaurants that open early are a short list, so it helps to pick a destination before heading out.

Yeji Bunsik (예지분식)
A home-style Korean diner in a Myeongdong side street. Kakao Map gives 05:30–21:00 Monday to Saturday, among the earliest openings in the area, at 17-3 Myeongdong 9-gil, Jung-gu (about five minutes' walk from Euljiro 1-ga Station Exit 5). Map apps list it as Yeji Sikdang. Sunday is unsettled — some listings say 05:30–14:00, Kakao Map shows it closed — so check a map app the day before a Sunday visit.
Hadongkwan, Myeongdong Main Branch (하동관)
Gomtang (beef soup) institution since 1939, open from 7am. It closes when the broth runs out, so morning is the classic move — but it is shut on Sundays, so plan a weekend breakfast here for Saturday. See our place page for details.
Isaac Toast — Myeongdong Cathedral and Seoul Myeongdong branches (이삭토스트)
Two branches of the same toast chain, with different terms. The Myeongdong Cathedral branch is listed 07:00–20:00; in the week checked, only Saturday 3 October, a public holiday, showed an 08:00 opening (Sunday was 07:00). The Seoul Myeongdong branch is listed Monday to Saturday 07:00–19:00 and closed Sundays, and blog reviews describe it as mainly takeaway. On a Sunday, aim for the Cathedral branch.
Sounds of Apple (사운즈오브애플)
A brunch cafe listed as open daily 07:30–16:00, one of the earlier openings in Myeongdong. It closes at 4pm, so it does not work for a late lunch.
Myeongdong Yanggwa (명동양과)
A bakery-cafe listed as open 08:00–22:30 Monday to Friday and 08:00–21:30 on Saturday and Sunday. The opening time is the same every day, so after 8am it is one you can rely on at weekends too.
Open at 09:00 — Myeonghwadang No. 1 (명화당) and FUROA Seoul (후로아)
Myeonghwadang (branch 1) is a gimbap and snack-food shop listed daily 09:00–22:30; that listing is the only source found for its hours. FUROA Seoul (Huroa) is listed daily 09:00–24:00, last order 23:30. Neither is an early option — they are for after 9am.
24 hours — Gimbap Cheonguk Myeongdong (김밥천국) and Ssada Gimbap Euljiro 1-ga (싸다김밥)
Gimbap Cheonguk's Myeongdong main branch is listed as open 24 hours, every day, and blog reviews say the same. Ssada Gimbap near Euljiro 1-ga station is also listed as 24 hours, and two visitor blog posts say the same. These are the fallback before anything else opens.
La Table — ibis Ambassador Myeongdong
The hotel's 19th-floor restaurant. Its official page gives breakfast as daily 06:30–10:00, last entry 09:30. The page does not state the price or whether non-guests can come in, and neither was confirmed. If you are not staying there, ask the hotel before going.
Namdaemun Market kalguksu alley
A 10-minute walk away. The market's official listing gives the kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) alley hours as 06:00–21:00, so it is the dependable early option. See our Namdaemun Market place page for payment and the rest.
Namdaemun Market — Isaac Toast Namdaemun (이삭토스트) and Dakjinmi Gangwonjip (닭진미강원집)
Isaac Toast's Namdaemun branch is listed 07:00–16:00 Monday to Friday and 07:00–14:00 on Saturday, closed Sundays. Dakjinmi Gangwonjip is listed 08:00–20:30, also closed Sundays. Both shut on Sunday, so plan a Namdaemun breakfast for Monday to Saturday.
Tips
- Don't count on street stalls or regular restaurants for breakfast. Tourism listings say Myeongdong's street-food stalls set up from 5pm on weekdays and 2pm on weekends.
- The hours for Isaac Toast, Sounds of Apple, Myeongdong Yanggwa, Myeonghwadang, FUROA Seoul, the gimbap shops, La Table and Dakjinmi Gangwonjip were read on 29–30 September 2026 from each shop's DiningCode page and the hotel's official page. Online listings change often and may not show temporary closures — check Naver Map for the day before you go.
- Sunday mornings are thinner. Hadongkwan, Isaac Toast's Seoul Myeongdong and Namdaemun branches, and Dakjinmi Gangwonjip are closed on Sundays. On a Sunday, look at Isaac Toast's Cathedral branch, Sounds of Apple, Myeongdong Yanggwa or the 24-hour gimbap shops.

Daiso Myeongdong Station
다이소 명동역점A multi-floor Daiso at 134-1 Toegye-ro, near Myeongdong Station. It is a fixed-price household-goods chain, so souvenirs, beauty items, snacks and travel supplies are all in one building. The Korea Tourism Organization lists it as a tax refund shop.
Dakjinmi Gangwonjip
닭진미강원집A chicken-soup and boiled-chicken restaurant inside Namdaemun Market, at 22-20 Namdaemunsijang-gil. DiningCode lists it 08:00–20:30, closed Sundays. Dak-gomtang (chicken soup) is listed at 10,000 won, a meat set meal at 12,000 won and a whole chicken at 23,000 won. It is a hot-soup breakfast option in the market, Monday to Saturday.
Embassy-front Exchange
대사관앞환전An exchange office on the ground floor of 26 Myeongdong 2-gil. Its official site, which carries the company's business details and counter rates but is built and run by a third party (Trip Onda), gives 09:00–21:30 on weekdays, weekends and public holidays alike. Two Japanese travel guides both describe it as a popular exchange within walking distance of Myeongdong Station Exit 5, and one says there is always a queue. The official site posts its counter rates.
Gimbap Cheonguk Myeongdong
김밥천국 명동본점A branch of the gimbap and snack-food chain at 114-3 Toegye-ro, near Myeongdong Station Exit 4. DiningCode lists it as open 24 hours, every day, and a visitor blog says the same. It is the fallback before anything else opens. A May 2026 visitor post gives ramyeon at 4,500 won and omelette rice or spicy pork rice at 8,500 won; DiningCode's menu shows lower, apparently older, prices.
