Riding From Seongsu: The Line 2 Branch Trap
What catches people at Seongsu is boarding, not exiting. The Line 2 loop and the Sinseol-dong branch share the same platforms here, so standing on the correct platform does not mean the train in front of you is going where you want. Past that, it behaves like any other Line 2 station.

Platform layout — four tracks side by side
Seongsu has two island platforms serving four tracks: the inner pair is the Line 2 loop, the outer pair is the branch to Sinseol-dong. They are not separated by fare gates and share the same platforms, so the platform alone does not tell you which service you are boarding.
Check the destination
Heading anywhere on the loop — Hongdae, Gangnam, City Hall — check the train's terminus before you step on. Sinseol-dong means the branch. If you get it wrong, you can transfer between the two without leaving the gates, and reach the other platform by stairs if you need to.
Ttukseom and Seoul Forest stations — alternative entrances
Coming from the Han River park side, Ttukseom Station (Line 2) can be closer. Seoul Forest Station is not Line 2 — it is on the Suin-Bundang Line, so do not plan a Line 2 trip around it.
Tips
- On the loop it is roughly 25 minutes to Hongdae and about 20 to Gangnam, both direct on Line 2. From Seoul Station there is no direct route — the usual way is Line 4 to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, then Line 2, around 30 minutes.
- There is no direct line from Incheon Airport to Seongsu. You take the AREX to Hongik Univ. Station and then continue east on Line 2. With heavy luggage that transfer is the painful part — a taxi is worth pricing.

A to B Seongsu
에이투비 성수A cafe-bar on the second floor of 135 Achasan-ro: coffee and desserts by day, cocktails and highballs in the evening. DiningCode lists 12:00–23:00 daily with last order at 22:30, so it is closed in the morning and fits better into an evening plan. The signature item is "pigotchi", dried persimmon topped with cream cheese and pecans (₩10,000). It is about 170 m from Seongsu Station Exit 2.
AayAan Seongsu
아이안 성수A dessert cafe on the third floor of 3 Wangsimni-ro 4ga-gil, centred on tarts and ice cream such as a fig tart and a honey-fig ice cream (₩13,000 each). It opens after midday and runs to around 23:00, so it does not work for a morning plan. Posted hours and closing days vary widely between sources — read the tip below before going.
Blue Bottle Coffee Seongsu
블루보틀 성수 카페Blue Bottle's first cafe in Korea, opened 3 May 2019. It is the red brick building outside Ttukseom Station Exit 1 — the ground floor holds the roastery that supplies Blue Bottle's Seoul cafes, and the seating is one level below. Multiple sources note the seat count is small. The official site lists 08:00–20:00 daily.
Cafe Dasique Seongsu
카페데이지크 성수A dessert cafe on the second floor of 6 Yeonmujang 5-gil. According to visitor reviews, the ground floor is a store of the cosmetics brand Dasique and the interior is pink-and-white marble. DiningCode lists 11:00–20:00 daily with last order at 19:00, so ordering stops an hour before closing. Individual cakes are listed at ₩14,000–₩16,000 and whole cakes at ₩55,000–₩59,000.
